6:00 – Land at Roissy.

7:15 – Clear customs at Roissy, inches ahead of some sociopathic Caribbean musicians who kept just walking up the line and passing people. This involves a lot of whispered “Behind you”‘s and “Hug the post!”‘s.

8:30 – Arrive home. I go to the market (and to pick up some cheap wine for the coq au vin we didn’t end up having); Nick goes to work. In fact, Nick started working in the car half an hour ago. Nick is kinda nuts.

12:00 – My brilliantly strategized pre-ordered groceries arrive, the careless gaps already having been filled in by my market trip. Nick leaves for Carrefour, because God forbid we be without the cable hookup thingy for two seconds of World Cup soccer.

13:00 – Nick is back, and so are the dogs. Yay!!

13:30 – The cable thingy is the wrong one. Nick is hallucinating from fatigue and can’t imagine driving, much less navigating an exchange in French. We’ll be missing Greece v. Argentina, which makes him very sad.

16:00 – We wake up. WTF?

16:30 – The cable thingy is still wrong, but it can be forced somehow to act right. Evidently this requires setting off a tornado in the office, but I don’t care. We get to see France run home with their tails between their legs, after all. And now Greece v. Argentina is a go!

20:00 – Apparently I’ve failed to remind Nick that every time he tries to do potatoes under a rotisserie with the oven door propped, the potatoes wind up raw. How could I?

20:30 – Greece v. Argentina. Nothing else matters.

20:45 – Nick is fast asleep.
